The United States – India Educational Foundation (USIEF) encourages mutual understanding between the citizens of India and US. USIEF has administered Fulbright Fellowships. Fulbright program is an international educational exchange program which is funded by U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. 1. Scholarship Program: Fulbright – Nehru Visiting Lecturer Fellowships

Brief Scholarship Description: The visiting lecturer fellowships for four months are designed for Indian faculty, researchers and professionals. Applications from all disciplines will be considered. Priority fields are: Agricultural Sciences; Economics; Education; Energy, Sustainable Development and Climate Change; Environment; International Relations; Management and Leadership Development; Media and Communications with focus on Public Service Broadcasting; Public Administration; Public Health; Science and Technology; Study of India with focus on contemporary issues; and Study of the United States. For Study of India or the Study of the United States (American Studies) the areas could include: language and literature, history, government, economics, society and culture, religion, and film studies.

2. Scholarship Program: Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program

Level of Study: Teaching
Brief Scholarship Description: The Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program will provide opportunities to up to eight Indian secondary school teachers (6th to 12th grades) of English, Mathematics, or Science to participate in direct exchange of positions with US teachers for the semester beginning August/September 2013, pending availability of funds. Indian teachers selected for this exchange will have the opportunity to work within a US school system and experience US society and culture. Similarly, US teachers will work in an Indian school and share their expertise. The exchange will benefit both the Indian and US teachers and their students, schools and communities.

3. Scholarship Program: Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program

Level of Study: Teaching
Brief Scholarship Description: The Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program, funded by the US Department of State is a nine-month, non-degree program that provides young college teachers of English or those training to be teachers of English, an opportunity to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the cultures and customs of the United States, while strengthening the instruction of foreign languages at US colleges and universities. Applicants should be between 21 and 29 years old at the time of application. Selected Fulbright FLTA participants from India would be teaching assistants in Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi or Urdu classrooms at select US campuses. Placements range from large institutions and small liberal art schools to community colleges and minority-serving institutions. Fulbright FLTA candidates should be adaptable to different locations and situations.

4. Scholarship Program: Fulbright – Nehru Doctoral and Professional Research Fellowships

Level of Study: Doctoral  Research Fellowship
Brief Scholarship Description: Fulbright – Nehru Doctoral and Professional Research Fellowships are for a maximum period of nine months, are designed for scholars who are registered for a Ph.D. at an Indian institution and also for professionals with significant work experience and accomplishments. Applications from all disciplines will be considered. Priority fields are: Agricultural Sciences; Economics; Education; Energy, Sustainable Development and Climate Change; Environment; International Relations; Management and Leadership Development; Media and Communications with focus on Public Service Broadcasting; Public Administration; Public Health; Science and Technology; Study of India with focus on contemporary issues; and Study of the United States. 5. Scholarship Program: Fulbright – Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

Brief Scholarship Description: Fulbright – Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellowships are for a maximum period of 12 months, are designed for Indian scholars and professionals who are in the early stages of their research careers. 6. Scholarship Program: Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research Fellowships

Brief Scholarship Description: The Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research Fellowships aim to provide Indian faculty, researchers, and professionals the opportunity to do research on contemporary issues and concerns to contribute to the creation of knowledge. The fellowships will be for a duration of up to eight months and will provide opportunities for research. Recipients will be affiliated to a US University or research institution.

7. Scholarship Program: Fulbright-Nehru Environmental Leadership Program

Level of Study: Training/Internship
Brief Scholarship Description: These fellowships are designed for mid-level Indian environment professionals in public/private sector or non-governmental organizations for up to four months. The program will combine short-term practical training/internship with opportunities for networking with American counterpart organizations. Selected fellows will be placed at US environmental public/private or non-governmental organizations, academic institutions or research centers and environment related government agencies. Fellows will be expected to explore future linkages between Indian and American organizations with common agendas.

8. Scholarship Program: Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowships for Leadership Development

Level of Study: Master’s
Brief Scholarship Description: The Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowships for Leadership Development are designed for outstanding young Indians to pursue a master’s degree program at selected US colleges and universities in the areas of Arts and Culture Management including Heritage Conservation and Museum Studies; Communication Studies; Conflict Resolution; Economics; Environment; Public Administration; Urban and Regional Planning; and Women’s Studies. The program is for highly motivated individuals who demonstrate leadership qualities, have completed the equivalent of aUS bachelor’s degree, have at least three years professional work experience, and are committed to return and contribute to their communities. The fellowships are for one to two years.

9. Scholarship Program: Fulbright-Nehru-CII Fellowships for Leadership in Management

Brief Scholarship Description: The Fulbright-Nehru-CII Fellowships for Leadership in Management are awarded to Indian business managers, whose employers would be willing to bear 50% of the total cost of the fellowship, to attend a specially-designed general management program at the Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a period of ten weeks. The official announcement for Fulbright-Nehru-CII Fellowships is likely be made in August 2012 and there may be changes and/or updates.

10. Scholarship Program: Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program

Brief Scholarship Description: The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, which is a Fulbright program, brings accomplished mid-level professionals from developing countries to the United States for ten months of non-degree graduate study and related practical professional experiences. The Humphrey program was initiated in 1978 to honor the memory and accomplishments of the late Senator and Vice-President of the United States, Hubert H. Humphrey. The program is designed to meet the requirements of policy makers, planners, administrators, and managers in the government, public and private sectors, and non-governmental organizations, who have a public service commitment, demonstrated leadership potential, and commitment to their own country’s development.

11. Scholarship Program: Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA)

Level of Study: Teaching
Brief Scholarship Description: The Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) provides international teachers with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge about the United States. TEA consists of a six-week non-degree, non-credit customized academic program including seminars on new teaching methodologies, curriculum development, lesson planning, and instructional technology. Participants will also participate in a practicum in a U.S. secondary school near the host university to work closely with U.S. teachers and teach and present to U.S. students. Cultural enrichment, mentoring, and support will be provided throughout the program. The international participants will travel to the United States in two cohorts of 88-90 teachers each in spring or fall 2013.

12. Scholarship Program: International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP)

Level of Study: Teaching
Brief Scholarship Description: The International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) provides international teachers with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge about theUnited States. ILEP consists of a semester-long non-degree, non-credit academic program at a US University including seminars on new teaching methodologies, curriculum development, lesson planning, and teaching strategies. Participants will audit two courses in the host university’s School or Department of Education and participate in a practicum in aUS secondary school near the host university. All participants will also receive a technology allowance and instructional technology training. Cultural enrichment, mentoring, and support will be provided throughout the program. ILEP will commence in January 2013 and conclude in May 2013.
